Schooling and education: I have always had a keen interest in gardening since watching my mum and Granddad do it from 6 years old onwards. But it wasn’t suitable for a school child to pursue, as it wasn’t cool. At that age, I had to bite my tongue for the sake of being ostracized. I also discovered that the national curriculum wasn’t in aligned with my interests, which resulted in being a troublemaker, and which led to quitting school before taking my end of year examinations.
1994 -2015:I began my career in retail, then followed onto the leisure industry, only to discover that they weren’t right for me. The main reason was that I was not given the opportunity to prove myself. Management denied me promotional opportunities which led to boredom. I was often outspoken which led to me being ostracized. I had a problem with playing politics and often spoke out of content against the narrative. That kept me in elementary positions throughout the durations.
Between these dates: I would spend a total of 2½ years out of the country travelling. I did the working holiday visa, spent some time sightseeing New Zealand, and did some educational courses in Thailand. Later I spent one year traveling around South America overland. But it never made any difference to career enhancement.
Entrepreneurial: I have always been entrepreneurial and wasn’t aware of it. And began realizing it at aged 37. Through trial and error. I managed to get it right.
1st attempt: I began setting up a Personal Training Practice and decided against it. It was mainly down to not having the right personality
2nd attempt: I brought into a Franchise business and kept criticizing how it was ran. Eventually I gave up
3rd attempt: I went to college, pursued my childhood interest of being a gardener and have now been a director of my own Company since May 2017.
The leaflet: I had to change the company name last year. To go limited, I could not use the name: The Personal Garden Service and had to rename the Company: The Personal Gardening Service Limited.
